Let me just put this away in the garage, who knows, I might use it someday. We all have a funny relationship with the things we own and this relationship needs some work. Too much of the stuff we buy ends up either collecting dust or discarded as landfill. We currently have Airbnb which allows you to make money by sharing under-utilised property and Uber which allows you to make money by sharing under-utilised vehicles. Well, now there is a way to make money by sharing your under-utilised things. Let me introduce you to Mutu.
Mutu is a digital rental marketplace that connects those who want things, with those who have them, but what does that actually mean? Do you have a spare surfboard lying around? Camping equipment collecting dust? A garage full of tools you’ve used a handful of times? Mutu allows you to rent, lend, hire & share the things you own and hardly ever use. Instead of that surfboard collecting dust, you can make money by lending it to a fellow surfer who is visiting your home town for the weekend. Or if you have a garage full of tools you can lend them to a first home buyer who is tackling their DIY projects.
With Mutu, you have access to whatever you need, whenever you need it. You can quickly search, compare & locate items to rent, lend, hire & share based on budget and location, all while reducing emissions and landfill contributions. We all own things that could be of value to someone nearby so why not make a new connection with a neighbour and help someone in your community by offering them a cheaper and more sustainable alternative to buying.
Mutu is currently being built as an app & website that will be available to use very soon.
Once ready, simply download the app, take a few photos of the things you’d like to rent out, write up a brief description and just like that, your item is ready to be listed. When someone wants to rent out your item you will receive a rental request and will then be able to communicate via our in-app chat function. Mutu handles all payments on the platform, verifies all of its users and allows you to add ratings & reviews to help make sure you are sharing your stuff with someone you can trust. They also provide an item protection policy so you don't have to worry about your things being damaged, broken or stolen.
Mutu is for those who can’t afford or justify buying an item outright, those who don’t want to buy something they’ll only use a handful of times, those who want to try before they buy, or those who would rather share with and help out a neighbour rather than buying something new. Even better, platforms like Mutu can have a material impact on landfill reduction, CO2 and GreenHouse Gas emissions, as well as water quality caused by landfill runoff and waste disposal.
As a society, we are all becoming more conscious of the things we buy and our individual impact on planet earth. There’s no need to buy and store things you don’t use regularly. With Mutu accessing the things you need will be cheaper, more flexible and easier on the planet. Make a new connection with a neighbour and help someone in your community by offering them a cheaper and more sustainable alternative to buying.
